There is a rematch button

its not about the points .. don't care about the points at all...its about friendly competition- seeing who tilts... playing a series.. best of 3 or 5. thats just my opinion.

It's fine if you want to play a series with someone, but it shouldn't be assumed the other person wants to. I, for one, have absolutely no interest in ever playing the same person more than once. I would greatly prefer a variety of opponents. Anyone that just assumes I want to play more than one game with them is in for some disappointment, and it is entirely their misplaced expectation at fault.

There‘s agreement to play a single game. All that what follows is neither a written nor a unwritten law. There‘s nothing to expect and nothing to demand. You can ask with the highest humility but that’s all.

I summarized the constructive criticism from this thread into a possible feature request.

Consequences of not accepting a rematch request:

  • a reward of minus 100 rating points
  • a new title will be awarded: LCM (Lichess Coward Master)
  • deactivation of message blocking for better communication
  • the social skill ELO rating will be set to 0
  • the current game result will be changed from win to lucky win
  • the nearest emergency doctor will automatically be informed about the players missing spine (similiar to the patron system a new icon will be provided for spine donors)

Implementing the aforementioned "shotgun mouthwash treatment" could cause some headaches, but it should not be too diffult to find some lichess devs acquainted with shotgun debugging.

  1. I believe that rating is not enough incentive to make a serious effort in our games, losing a game might be though...The decliners know that and in fear of punishment, they simply flee the scene.

  2. Chess is not all about winning, it's also about Grace, Dignity, Sportsmanship, Etiquette. Playing the rematch when you are able to, differentiates between another bad mannered account on the internet and a gentleman.

Being a gentleman cannot be forced.

How do you equate not wanting a rematch to bad sportsmanship? Noone owes you a rematch. @ZeldCrown

Gentlemen accept the defeat without begging for rematches or takebacks. They knew they had sucked and keep quiet. With grace, dignity and sportsmanship.
