Puzzle Error

Haha, nice find! Shows you that some human filtration of puzzles is required and that the algorithm can be wrong for puzzle selection! Technically it is mate in 5, but only because you have to know the moves that led to this position. If White goes Qh4+, Kg1 causes 3-fold repetition because in game, they already played this twice.

Wow. So many of these "puzzle is wrong" posts don't get it right, but this is a winner. Yeah, the simple mate in 2 is scored as wrong. Hilariously, my mind first started noticing the mate in 5 route and then was "wait a sec".

I appreciate there's the thumb down option but this puzzle really goes beyond just not liking. This is unfairly costing people points. And not only should it be removed or fixed but it highlights an interesting area where the puzzle selection algorithm needs tweaking.

Even after Qh4+, SF does not spot the mate at depth 127 on my local analysis.
Hilarious fail by stockfish.
Btw, friendly(right?) fyi, to report wrong puzzles, the Feedback section would be a better place :)

Something weird must be happening here because my engine spots the mate in #2 right away...

Check the game, if Qh4+ it would be a 3fold repetition, draw, which is why the computer shows 0.0, of course, this is just me saying the reason why this mistakes happen, of course we don't know how we got to the starting position, or that the original player missed mate in one 2 times already, its still a wrong puzzle, but funny to see this ended happening

Why not just use the same position, one repetition earlier, as the starting position, to avoid this? weird AI creating this puzzle haha

Oh, I see now... So the puzzle is not an error.

Also, in puzzles, you CAN check all of the moves leading up to the current one, so that makes sense. It just doesn't make sense when you're trying to solve a puzzle in isolation.

It is odd incidentally how often these three-reps come up as a factor in Puzzle solutions...
