This happened to me in a few games (writing the move instead of dragging the piece) and i cant find it anywhere so i just wanted to see if anyone could help me here. When two of the same piece can move to the same square (for example, one knight on c3 and the other one on g1, they can both go to e2) is the file the preferential way to distinguish both knights unless they're on the same file? In that example N3e2 or N1e2 doesn't work, but Nce2 or Nge2 does. Is the rank only used when both pieces are in the same file? Thanks in advance.

Yes, rank only if on the same file.

What if one side is going to promote but it promotes and puts the opponent's king in check? Would you notate it something like "e=Qe8+" or maybe something like "e=Q+" ?

i think the square comes first, like e8=Q+. But if you're typing the moves you dont need to mark stuff like + or #, you can just write e8=Q. But if you mean like two pawns can promote in the same square by capturing you'd specify the capture ofc, like dxe8=Q as far as i know.

oh the disambiguating moves section is really helpful, thanks! Didn't even think about needing to use both lol
