Hello everyone
i have a large PGN file with games of one player, and i would like to explore how he plays his openings, like you can do with the book tool on the analysis board on lichess. Does anyone know a way to accomplish this? Maybe with certain software?
I know how to import PGN into a study but i want to create an opening tree of the games and compare it to a (grand)master database for analysis, preferably with help of an engine
I have not been able to figure out. Tips anyone?
Regards
Thom

If the games were played on Lichess, just enter the player's name in the Personal Opening Explorer. Press [Book Symbol] [Player] [Gear]. If not, try a chess GUI or database. (See "How to Use a Chess GUI:" https://lichess.org/@/CaseyReese/blog/how-to-use-a-chess-gui/tZNkxV7p .)

CB does the job perfectly, even the older versions.

SCID vs. PC is another option.
You open a reference database, the one with GM games. Windows --> Tree Windows. Then left-click on the tab that opened Tree --> Best games. And then open a PGN and can open another tree for this database or just navigate.

Arena has a pgn reader which can be linked to the Stockfish engine by way of download.

You can use the LiChess Tools browser extension and play right here on LiChess.
- Import all of the PGNs in Analysis Board (the extension will merge them into one PGN)
- Turn the analysis into a study
- Alter the resulting chapter to be of type Interactive Lesson
- Press Preview to play as or against your chosen player (the extension will choose random variations from the PGN)
