Hi,
I played quite a few correspondence games and I have noticed a pattern. Many players who can't cross 1300 on real time game can reach 1800/1900 on correspondance games.
I can uunderstand that some people are not able to bear the stress but here is the thing
- Some player who are not able to play a correct opening till the 3rd move in real time become expert in correspondence. They finish the games with amazing stats.
- Some others are bad from the 1st move but when they are a way too bad position can find a sequence of 5/6 moves that the analysis at best possible ones. If they start to lose again, the same sequence comes again.
Is it something that can be detected once reported?

I think someone on Lichess put cheat detection

I read that detection works if someone runs an engine at the same time. Will the detection works if someone is getting human or computer assistance while not being online?

It‘s difficult. Relevant data is missing like time consumption.

It is impossible to tell if an engine was consulted or not in a correspondence game of say 3 days per move. At 3 days per move all moves are of high quality with or without engine. For that reason ICCF now allows engines in correspondence. It is hypocrite of lichess to forbid something it cannot patrol.

Use of opening books are allowed in correspondence. Opening play will thus be automatically better. Since cheat detection is slightly more difficult, correspondence doesn't have a leaderboard. I guess the website doesn't go into detail about how cheaters are detected. However, I think the website leaves no stone unturned in catching any cheaters.

Do you think an engine was used in this game after move 40?
https://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1033779
This was 1950, no engine of any strength was available.
After move 40 the game was adjourned, i.e. the move was written down and sealed in an envelope for resumption of the game next day.
Bronstein went to sleep, but his second, Boris Samoilovich Vainstein, not even a master, analysed all night and worked it out from move 40 to move 80.

In correspondence chess its allowed to move pieces on the board before set a move ´´(this is cheating in normal chess) so its really unlikely to detect cheating ...
