How would they rank after say 1 year if they play a double round robin tournament against each other?

I don't know. Do you? My guess would be: After one year most ganes are still decided by tactics, so the puzzle man would be good in the race.

Is this because your username is...

Yeah, I do a lot of puzzles and it helps, but long ago I laid a broader fondation. The question "What if you do only this or only that?" is a theoratical one, the practical aprroach would be: Learn something every day, it doesn't matter which phase of the game, it doesn't matter if tactics or strategy. If you find it out by yourself it will stay longer with you.

Short answer, no.
Does taking IQ tests repeatedly make you more intelligent? Puzzle solving is only one aspect of chess training and won't take you far unless it is combined with improving other chess skills. Maybe you should aim for the World Chess Solving Championships.

first you exclude anything else than tactics categorically, e.g.:

After one year most ganes are still decided by tactics.

then all of a sudden [bold italics by me]:

Learn something every day, it doesn't matter which phase of the game, ...

...it doesn't matter if tactics or strategy.

what made you change your mind 180º
or haven't you made up your mind yet

There is a hierarchy in skills

  1. blunder elimination
  2. tactics
  3. endgames
  4. openings

Playing and analyzing lost games trains all 4.
Studying grandmaster games trains 2) 3) 4)
Studying endgames trains 3)
Studying openings trains 4)

A master puzzle rating at depth one obviously differs from ratings at higher depths. Once you reach the master level at depth one, it's time to progress to depth two, where your rating will likely drop until you master that level. What’s needed is a "rating reset button" to help players use their current rating as a readiness gauge for more complex training levels. Quantity and quality are too different things.
