Is it ok for some random person to send you messages and ask random irrelevant and private questions

I was just minding my business watching some YouTube and heard the lichess notification ping. Thought it was maybe a team message or a forum notification but some random person sent me some messages in broken english. I'm not going to say who it is and you know who you are. But is it ok for people to do this? I heard that this happened to people before but never to me.

I might have been contacted by the same person a few minutes ago.

I guess if you allow private messages it's ok for people to send you one, but also, spam is against the TOS.

It is wrong for people to do that. But whatever you do, don’t send out any private information.

You can deactivate getting messages by strangers in the settings if you don't like it. I don't mind it. Often it's people from india that are used to making connections for no obvious reasons (noracism!). I don't make friends with them, but I always reply friendly. On lichess a lot of cultures meet, sometimes it is spam, sometimes it's just people trying to make friends. Whatever it is, you can reply friendly, you can chat with em, you can block em. Anyways nothing to get too upset about in my opinion. I personally try to avoid writing people I don't know at all, so they do not feel like you do, in some rare cases I do, when it doesn't belong in a public discussion.

If they’re doing that just reply with dumb answers. Like if they ask your age, reply ‘1000 or 42 million’. It will annoy them enough to make them go away.
