Is it ok for some random person to send you messages and ask random irrelevant and private questions

I was just minding my business watching some YouTube and heard the lichess notification ping. Thought it was maybe a team message or a forum notification but some random person sent me some messages in broken english. I'm not going to say who it is and you know who you are. But is it ok for people to do this? I heard that this happened to people before but never to me.

I guess that's up to you if it's ok. If they are breaking ToS with the message, you can report them, if you just don't want to be bothered but it's harmless but friendly nonsense you can just block and delete. I get A LOT unwanted spam from strangers, from "Hi" to "pls join my team / pls join my simul" usually from 10-year-olds rated even lower than me... I either chat nicely with them or don't, depending on my mood, and or report/block if appropriate. And of course, being obviously female I get other kinds of unwanted messages... Sometimes I get spammed with repeated challenges from coaches trying to sell their services to lower rated players.

But I keep my inbox open to strangers because as a team leader, I also get a lot of queries about team events, tourneys, pairings, forfeits, queries etc so I need to be able to answer them as well. I guess it's about balance and what you are willing to put up with

Always say your a 13 year old girl. That way, you can catch predators. Also, they are more likely to send money to your paypal.

If they’re doing that just reply with dumb answers. Like if they ask your age, reply ‘1000 or 42 million’. It will annoy them enough to make them go away.
or write random chinese letters and pretend u dont know any other language xD

It's called harassment, report them.
I agree
