I have been playing chess for over 3 years now ,despite constant practice and attempts I have never been able to acheive my dream rating. (2000)
The question which is stuck in my head is "How to get to 2000 elo?" "What do I need to focus on? tactics or openings?"
If you have an answer please share it with me, I would be more than happy to hear your responses

"How to reach 2000 elo in bullet (or any time control or variant)?" * Focus on 15+10 rapid and do not play blitz or bullet. Skill descends from the slower to the faster time controls. The essence is to analyse your lost games and learn from your mistakes. Blitz or bullet games are not even worth to analyse.
"What do I need to focus on? tactics or openings?" * Tactics, yes. Openings surely no. Do not forget endgames, especially rook endings.

Thank you!
First, get to 1999. Then work hard at tactics and the endgame and get that next point.
That's the only advice I'm somewhat confident to give or receive.
Three years isn't a long time, when one measures the length of typical ongoing chess frustration.
I'm still rather skeptical of the supposed nearly instant progress of that fine, even legendary, former chessplayer Deschapelles.

@drchampionsteinv you've to consider two choices here. If you are serious enough about improving chess as a whole, then practice 15 puzzles everyday, play 5+3 blitz and 10+0/15+10 slower time controlled games, beside that study endgames and classics from Saint Louis chess club. Don't take too much pressure but follow the way you can enjoy it.
And if you only want to reach 2000 in bullet, nothing else, that's totally okay. You've to practice puzzles a lot, try lichess puzzle storms and puzzle racer and learn opening traps (these are truly helpful in bullet), beside these the very important thing is to build a practical sense of time wise play, you've to learn to use your time according to your needs. That's how you'll be able to develop an overall instinct. Best wishes!

2000 Elo Is very difficult, but you can solve a lot of puzzles every day
