How to quit chess?

I want to quit playing chess, because I dont enjoy playing it, but also I cant stop playing it. After playing I fill empty and frustrated, but i also come back again and again. Maybe just making this post will help me or maybe your advice will help me.

Just delete your account and get your mother to block the site.

Close your account, and focus on studies for quite a few years. Then, come back, after a successful career to play quiet chess.

I'd have two suggestions:

  1. Get a website blocker, and block all the chess sites. With this obstacle you are not tempted to start a game in the blink of an eye, and your brain gets a chance to consider if playing chess is the thing you really want to do now.
I don't want to advertise a specific program here, just google "website blocker productivity tool" and you'll find many.

  2. Join a real-world chess club. Play long games over real boards, not blitz and bullet. You may enjoy that more.

Like any other online game, chess can become an addiction, especially blitz and bullet. If this is really bothering you and making you unhappy; if you play for hours although you know before and after that you don't really want to play, it may start to affect your mental health. In this case, please don't hesitate to get professional help . I don't know in which country you live, but probably your family doctor could give you the right contact.

Classic addiction. Taking too much of a good thing to unhealthiily cope for an inner void.

You'll have to deal with addiction by treating the cause, not the symptoms. Playing too much chess and feeling unfulfilled at the end of it is a symptom.

I always had ADHD, so it may be the cause if I have addiction.
