How to create an opening repertoire in SCID?

Hey guys I was wondering, how do you create an opening repertoire in SCID?

I'm not sure there is a specific option that would allow you to create one, but surely you can create a new database and add a new game for each opening or line in your repertoire. For example, one for white, one for black and then use tree window of these databases to navigate.

LucasChess has a very easy way of creating a repertoire book, you can enter a line at a time and build up the repertoire as you go along, then whenever you want generate a whateverbook.bin open book file - using the included ployglot app - which can be transferred to SCID and used as a book for games. You can even create a bin book from a set of games in seconds. The line-by-line approach is very useful as you can direct the engine bots to play into any given line and thus build up the repertoire that way or alternatively use engine evaluations to expand a given line into a opening tree.

I am sure SCID can do something similar, although far more likely to involve a set-of-games and/or set-of-pgns approach.

You need to download your games. If you down load other games. It's not your own repertoire, but theirs.

LiChess has lots of tools that can help you to generate a repertoire.
Here is something that references the SCID vs PC tool:
It gives the basics for creating an opening rep.
https://www.expert-chess-strategies.com/pgn-downloads

A free updated / current source for many downloadable PGN files based on Player, ECO of Opening and Events.
https://www.pgnmentor.com/files.html

One other things is you can generate an opening report for a database using Tools | Opening Report with SCID vs PC. You can get a opening table with references to footnotes containing other possible moves.

You can also get a free database such as Caissabase and then search the database for games related to the main positions of an opening of interest.

Most programs use polyglot on the background, so why not use polyglot directly? You will have to use command line, e.g.,

polyglot make-book -min-game 32 -min-score 40 -pgn games.pgn -bin games.bin

This creates an opening book based on openings in the collection games.pgn. An opening line is included if the end position of the line appears at least 32 times in the collection and has a minimum score of 40%. You can vary these parameters depending on you needs. There are other options to polyglot, e.g., create white book or black book, merge books, etc. Now you can load this file in lucaschess or scid or xboard or many other programs.

How to get games.pgn? Load caissabase, filter games by ECO codes, year, player ratings, etc. and export them to pgn.
