I would like to know if there is any unofficial consensus on the state of standard chess vs people choosing to play chess 960 instead with the incidence of high numbers of drawn games being a big reason people are switching to chess960. Maybe on this one issue Bobby Fischer was right after all?

#1 not just because of the plenty draws, Fischer's goal was to create a chess variant in which chess creativity and talent would be more important than memorization and analysis of opening moves.

Hardly anyone is switching to FischerRandom hence no reason to ponder why people switch to it.

There are a couple of percents playing chess69. So, it’s a minority attack :D

Playing variants too from time to time don't means that one have to abandon standard chess.

huge number of draws only happen at the topmost level of chess (>2300). They barely make 1-2% of chess population.
At intermediate level less than 10% of games are drawn. So most of the players have no problem with draws.

Chess960 has always had some following. It seems to be gaining some ground since online chess boomed. Setting up the board is now a snap. In 2019 FIDE finally recognized Chess960 officially by organizing a World Championship Tournament. Wesley So won the title in the final against Magnus Carlsen who qualified thru online events.
I seem to have a higher rating in 960 than in regular chess, possibly because my opponent has no advantage due to knowledge of opening lines. I view it like others here. Its a nice variant for a change of pace. Makes you think out of the box, but standard chess has a lot of tradition and history and that also has its appeal.
