Chess Computer - Worth It or Not?

@absk-kr-singh said in #1:

I'm planning to buy a chess computer for myself. I think it is better to have a physical board in front rather than a laptop/mobile display screen to play the game.

If you plan to actually play the computer, I think you will get bored and discouraged from losing. So I wouldnt buy it for that.

If you are going to hook it up to the pc and lichess, Maybe, but you will have to do the opponent and your moves too, so short time controls wont really be possible. But i suppose it will work in 10-15+. But you will still require the pc to connect the board and to see the opponent moves. The novelty might get old rather fast.

I mean, if i had the money, i would buy it regardless to have a very nice physical board, but I wouldnt use the excuse of online play to get it. It would only be an addon to the pc to do what you can do already, but more complicated.

I have the Squareoff Grand Kingdom board, and so far I'm enjoying it. The board plays your opponents moves automatically, you do not need to move their pieces. I bought the board to try and bridge the gap between online and OTB since I want to play a tournament next spring.

I've heard a lot about 2 chess computers: DGT Centaur and Millennium King Performance. I wonder which one is better to buy. I want to have a durable machine which can play with me every day. Your suggestion will be very valuable. Please help.
