Chess Computer - Worth It or Not?

Unless you move peices like Thor banging in Tent pegs with his hammer. Buy the cheapest.

Yeah i dunno, but the best "chesscomputer" is stockfish afaik so I would think sticking to that would be the best choice. And it's free.

I have the DGT CEntaur. Its a nice tournament size board with a real good human like computer, and flud captures, but you can't play online with it and you can't use different apps or engines. Its only what it comes with onboard. their modified stockfish 11 i believe.

IF I was you. I would wait and get the Chessnut Air Tournament size board when it is released. I also had the DGT Pegasus but returned it for the chessnut air which is the only travel size board I know of that has full piece recognition. Its a great board I would recommend. Super cheap too half the price of the others. But if you really want a tournament size board, then just get their tournament size edition.

oh Just an FYI. You can't play blitz with an eboard on Lichess. I believe they do this because it would not be practical and to ensure a competitive match. I usually do 30 min games with my board. But you can also do 10 min rapid games. Or I believe you can also do 5/5 games.

Is your Centaur working fine? No issue with piece detection or whatsoever right?

Yes it works fine no issues with peace recognition or anything. The dgt Pegasus did have issues and that annoyed me so I returned it. But the centaur has no issues. I still have it but I never use it because I prefer to play with a board online over the internet so I use my Chestnut Air Board.

I have a centaur and to be honest it spends most of its time in its box. If I were you as mentioned previously buy yourself a nice wooden board and make the moves looking at your phone ,I know it's not the same as pretty lights telling you what to do. But you'd save yourself from pretty much wasting money as I did. Also the centaur is far too big for a chess computer. xxx that's my thought ,hope this helps with your decision xxx edit I play my correspondence games out on a wooden board

Whatever the outcome, I'd say this is a great first world chess puzzle to solve.

having to look at the screen ruins the immersion though imo. The chessnut air is a desk sized board. i play with it mostly on my lap. its $199 but there is a coupon code for $20 or 30 off. Its a great board, only one out of its competition that has full piece recognition. I like it to play online, but it pretty much works with any app as well, like chessdojo, fritz, etc... also has its own app and Compter you can use offline. You also can use it to record up to 50 otb games. Which you can then download to your pc or phone for analysis.

Some people do want the tournament size board to for practice and the feel of playing a tournament. so centaur is tournament sized. but chessnut air also coming out with a tournament sized board on preorder right now.

And if you want FULL immersion. Square Off has a couple types of boards that will move the pieces by themselves. For example the Square Off Neo which is their budget one.
