Cheating methods

I used to be in the 1400+ level for most of the past year.. Then I lost a few games a few weeks ago, dropped to 1350 or so.. I thought, no biggie, in a few games I'll get back .. Then weird things started happening... the lower I dropped, the stiffer the competition got.. Players would start games with blatant mistakes.. I would end up with a free piece and more time on the clock.. then all of a sudden the opponent makes brilliant moves... until they get a decisive advantage.. then they start making dumb moves again.. but by that time, trying to solve the brilliant moves they made, I lost a lot of time.

In a different scenario.. and especially around the 1250-1299 level, the opponents play impeccable openings... which never used to happen at the 1400+ level.. then their level drops... then towards the end they find exquisite moves again...

I know that there are browser add-ons out there to suggest moves. Is it something that Lichess has a way of detecting?

Could you post some examples of these brilliant games? They might not be objectively sound.

You fried your cerebrum by playing 100 blitz games a day, so your rating dropped.

Take a week off to regrow brain tissue and in the future remember to stick your head in the snow every 10 games or so to cool.

I find it very unlikely that most everyone you play in say 1000-1300 range is a cheater.

If everyone in the 1000-1300 cheated, I would end up at 900 in one day. I didn't say everyone, but there are a few.

What do you do in Vanuatu where there is no snow? :-)

I fan myself with a Vanuatu fan palm. I almost only play slow chess, so not a big issue.

The only people defending cheaters are cheaters. I have experienced that exact scenario many times. From my experience it would be about 10% of people cheating online at chess. It is annoying but it is free so who cares.

Yes, there are a few. And according to the stats, there are ~165000 active players with blitz rating in this interval (1000-1300). So what is the chance that you keep meeting those few as often as you think? Isn't it much more likely that those games weren't actually as brilliant as you thought?
