Cheaters getting better at cheating

I wont display names of people I think were cheating as this is against rules. Ps: I have reported many so far and at least one of them were as I got a mail saying that.

Are you implying that I am a cheater?

@aescht for your personal information, cheating can occur at any level, in any milieu, so there's no point in discussing if 1200s cheat more than 2000s or whatever

„everyone can cheat“ nowhere implies „everyone cheats“. This popular agitation of „Lichess is plagued by cheaters everywhere and doesn’t care“ is complete nonsense too and don’t take it seriously at all. Most players are good.

Another factor to consider is that to reach a higher rating a cheater has to play more games while cheating and also possibly cheat in those games to a greater degree - both raise the chances of being caught. More cheaters near the starting 1500 rating than much higher is exactly what you would expect since cheaters are more likely to be caught as they rise in ratings.

Have some faith in the moderators let them do their jobs if someone cheats their going to get caught they have the best cheat detection on the Internet they refund your points.

Sportsmanship win or lose assume everyone you play rated is on the up and up until proven otherwise no drama.

That is a good point. It mostly applies to full cheaters and not occasionnal cheaters (there are some cheaters who just cheat once in a while), but you're right to add this to the conversation :)

In the same vein, then, let us consider recent revelations that maybe as many as 50% of Twitter accounts are 'bots' ... some think the number may be significantly higher ...

In any case, how many users here are some type of 'stealth bot' ?

And how many are home grown and specifically deployed on targeted individuals, and how many are from external 'bad actors' ?

If someone is rated 1200, they aren't winning very often, which makes it really unlikely that they are cheating. The main point of cheating is to win after all. Most cheaters are high rated with a low number of games, because they don't last very long before they get caught. Their thought process goes like this:
I got away with it!
I'm so smart, I got away with it again!
...
Why is everyone I play against marked as being a cheater?

Reports are pointless. Lichess moderators are limited in number and do not have the time, or desire, to root out cheaters. Long story short, if the basic automated process does not catch a cheater, the cheater will never be caught.

A word of advice, however. Do not complain too much about the cheating. Lichess moderators are far more concerned with acting as kindergarten censors and, among other things, muting people, than they are with rooting out cheaters. European fascists, at their worst.
