Saying that something is a rip-off is implying an unfair price
According to GPL, all changes to a GPL item you're forking must be made public (ie- source code). That's why Chessbase quickly and quietly released the source code to their changes after this controversy started.
If this article is correct and Fat Fritz 2 is literally Stockfish 12 with the author field and some default settings changed, then the only real difference is the weights and layer count it's using. Those must be made available to download for free under GPL (and where). So anyone can just download Stockfish 12 and load the FF2 weights with very little effort. In other words, Fat Fitz 2 has an objective worth of close to 0 euro, but they are charging around 100 euro for it. Definitely an unfair price.
At least that is my understanding of GPL since I started looking into it. I'm definitely not an expert on this subject so could be wrong.
