Carlsen ekes out another Topsy Turvy Titled Arena Victory

I'm not trying to demonize you, though I see your point on that issue, and I think it's valid.
I think call-out culture does exist such that folks with good intentions can be demonized unfairly.

It might seem like 'transvestite' is a nitpick.
And yet, there is a not-as-small-as-you'd-imagine group of people who (I believe) would appreciate the 'nitpick'.

Maybe it is tiring or makes us feel sensitive to confront these issues and I'm sure the possibility of being demonized contributes to that. But doesn't it seem like worthwhile cause to hold ourselves accountable to? Can we acknowledge that inclusivity is worthwhile?

This isn't censorship. This is (hopefully) a discussion about how to better ourselves.
A semi-relevant (y'all can draw the parallels) quote from an article by someone smarter than me (Gary Younge of the Guardian):
medium.com/the-guardian/the-serena-cartoon-debate-calling-out-racism-is-not-censorship-18adf6b6782a

"And so it is that we once again enter the culture wars, stage right, with aggressors posing as victims, bigotry masquerading as satire, free speech condemned as censorship; and any calls for sensitivity, historical context, moral responsibility, equality, accuracy, decency, fairness or accountability dismissed as “political correctness”. Rhetorical straw men are pummelled to within an inch of their lives and, in this case, a real black woman is deprived of her dignity.

This has nothing to do with censorship. Nobody, to my knowledge, is claiming this cartoon should be illegal. And if they have, they are wrong. Within the limits of laws regarding incitement to racial hatred (which I don’t believe apply in this case) Knight has the right to draw a racially offensive cartoon and the Herald Sun has the right to publish it. But that right should not be mistaken for an obligation."
@cincigoose The reason chess and gaming communities are turning "toxic" (of course an american who talks about intersections and inclusivity uses that word) is that you are taking the fun out of their hobby by acting like they have a problem to fix. People play chess, lol or whatever else because its fun. Then you guys come along and tell everyone they should care about some nonsense that the vast vast majority are not interested in at all.

This thread is a perfect example. Carlsen played a very interesting opening in a fun tournament that was incredibly close but here we are talking about this because someone wants to whine about a ridiculous detail that 99+% of the people have no problem with.
I agree, chess is fun! And I do think folks should care about this ‘nonsense’ lol.
No problem moving the discussion to another thread if that’s what you’re suggesting :)
Review is great, in exact words it was written without any changes.
Off-topic posts here harass common sense and must be separated to their own discussion.

Magus is one hell of a talented ass! Made awesome stream, at the start he barely could connect a pair of words.
Damn bad Nakamura not shines here around - they both are sort of critical mass for critical mess. Well, and probably he is only person who could Bongcloud Magnus back.
The crossdresser is a better name fit for the opening.

crossdresser= (wo)man who stays their gender but swap clothes/position with a man.
transvestite= (wo)man who removes(adds) certain features.

Clearly in this opening the queen stays the queen and the king the king. (although maybe more a dragqueen)
@ dampoo: That is not correct, transvestite is Latin for cross dresser, indeed, and both terms refer to the same behaviour.
Hm I like inclusion. I operate servers for communication and we have everything from the spectrum, European, African, (Native) American, Straight, Gay, even trans. I don't mind inclusion (why would I), so I didn't wanna butt in.

But I'll tell you why you're having a hard time convincing people and I hope you understand that like with chess, these type of things come with imbalances and sometimes a choice has to be made:

The chess community can make this concession. It's certainly not a big deal! However, the general experience with this sort of thing is that you give an inch and "they" take a mile. The list of things that may be offensive will and DOES become more and more subtle and basically never ends.
This is a slippery slope, and not a fallacy. This has happened in many occasions and in many communities. We're talking about the chess community, a community that can't even agree on sportsmanship and you expect them to cater to the desire for change of something as trivial as the name of an opening?

It should be about intention, not about surface-level pedantry. I can only speak from what I consider common sense and which is subjective perhaps, but I think a trans person will be less bothered by the weird name of an obscure opening, and more by people looking at them strange - so again: intentions over arbitrary words. We should be decent to one another and not encourage surface-level "decency"

I am not trying to convince you, your intentions aren't bad. I just hope that this helps you understand why it might not be the hill to die on.
