Carlsen ekes out another Topsy Turvy Titled Arena Victory

You wrote : "DrNykterstein (in contrast to Magnus’s prior nom de plume, DrDrunkenstein) then proceeded". Change this to "nom de guerre" which is a more fitting synonym for pseudonym. Nom de plume means "pen name" and should only be given to writers.
I never realised Lichess was full of so many drama queens who would break down shrieking just because someone asks them to be polite.
What a great article. Really well written. So many people looking for reasons to be offended these days. I at least found it a fun read. Thanks!
@Tomondo the polite thing to do would be to keep it to yourself and not ruin a thread about chess with your nonsense.
@Tomondo,

Seems we are never going to agree, so let's leave that discussion. However I do have an honest question for you. If you are offended by the use of a relatively passive word such as "transvestite", how on earth do you manage to play chess matches on lichess? I mean you must have been called "noob", "homo" etc or various other insults in the chat, happens to me all the time. So in those cases you can talk about someone actually trying to offend you, using words that are actually offensive. How do you cope with that? At what point do you think, "humm, maybe it's easier if I try to be less offended by everything, than trying to change the world to be less offensive to me"?
Man did Carlsen play some cooooool openings
That was crazy, loved it
And as always, RebeccaHarris got the W on Magnus! Thanks for the Arena, Lichess, thanks for the stream/videos, Chessnetwork, and thanks for the good games, Magnus

ps funny little debate you got going here lol. I'm just gonna say that if you have to actually inform others that a term is slightly controversial, it's probably not inherently as bad as it seems to you
@Tomondo thanks for trying :)

Everybody else: I don't understand what causes y'all to respond so aggressively against this suggestion.

I don't find this issue particularly funny either, though I do see some comedy in the surrounding debate. It seems like the main grief is around so-called 'though policing' or 'SJW bullshit' trying to tell you how to be. Not my intention - I'll try to restate:

Hey fellow chess folks. Many (admittedly not all) folks in another community, which may intersect with ours, seem to be offended by the 'transvestite'. I didn't know whether or not that was the case originally, so I did a bit of research and trusted sources like GLAAD tells me about the history of that term being used as a mental disorder classification and why it can be demeaning. If you are interested in the topic and want to do that research too, that's awesome. Regardless, I suggest that it wouldn't hurt to stop using this term and use a roughly synonymous, more preferred term. Ideally we would make some folks feel better and make us a better community. Worst case... I can't really think of one.

People have varied experiences of the world and I'm genuinely curious for ways to be more inclusive. I'm not throwing shade at anybody who's used this term without malice. I'm not thought policing; I'm not threatening exclusion. I could care less about getting 'points' for this. I do care about inclusivity.

I'm not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. If you disagree with my specific points here and agree with the intention for improving and making the chess community more inclusive, let's have that conversation and make things happen! I don't think this is a one-off issue, and I think online chess in particular is turning a little more toxic in the vein of LoL and other online game communities. Happy to have that conversation too.

The simple point to me is not if a word is offensive or not, it is the extremely high amount of censorship being placed on society, under the guise of political correctness.

Everything is being considered offensive and free speech is being impacted by it, and anyone who opposes it is automatically demonized. Simply by typing this out, there are some that will consider me anti LGBT, even though my argument is not about them, it is about my personal rights to free thought and speech.

I am simply tired of everything being censored and conformed to make a small group of people (whoever, for whichever cause they may be rallying behind) happy. I am quite sure I am not alone in this sentiment.
