Yes, it is a serious issue. Finding a mate in one ... it's really hard. Maybe it's a selection process.

But for some sub 500s......
I guess if you're a sub 500 and can't see the mate, you could literally try every possible legal move.

Giving checks might help a little *scnr*.
But seriously, we all know that mate in one involves an immediate check, so check in one is obviously neccessary for mate in one which, as I am saying, should really help to find the mate...
And if it does not help, look out for the concept of "chess blindness".
By the way, the prize for my strangest thought today goes straight to Lichess:

The captchas are a good feature. Look at some of the inane "chats" on the other site and you will see why.
