1 e4 best by test - Fischer
1 d4 dull & drawish - Fischer
I never opened 1 d4, on principle - Fischer
In their 1992 re-match

The mighty Kasparov stated wittily: I have found after 1.d4 there are more opportunities for richer play.
PS: After 25 years I have switched to d4 or rather Nf3/c4/d4. But for good, Gyula Breyer was right:
„After 1.e4 White’s play is in last throes.“
e4 rings hollow IMHO.

Study endgames, it's better
