minor piece battle against a siberian guy
by having an extra pawn in the queenside
and picking up a knight instead of a bishop since
it moves better in that type of structure
here is the game
https://en.lichess.org/0azNfPQf/black#100
its almost a casual game, its the first time I play a6
took the idea from alessandro santagati
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YkVkYvp_46g&feature=youtu.be
and then he gave me a pawn for free c4 and I just traded
to win the endgame because I wanted to play for an endgame.
so the theme is knight versus bishop by having an extra pawn in the queenside.

Last week I started testing a quick h2h4 in the French defense Winawer as white. Here's a game with it :
https://en.lichess.org/9ZWyQdq7/white#9
Space advantage theme.
First making sure that the queenside is in good shape, and black has not many options there.
Maintaining center control. Strong square on c5 for the white knight.
In the end not the hasty Rh5, but first Bxf5+! and only then Rh5 which makes the win easier.
Besides the positional patterns there were some pin tactics in the end.

4...Nc6 is a bit of an unusual move - but Kasparov has played an early h4 in the main line (4...c5 5.a3) - not a line I know well but looks interesting https://en.lichess.org/EMzMTfXg#24

And in an amazing coincidence, Karjakin is playing it on the top board of the Olympiad, right now...

Theme : file control
I gave up the bishop pair to get some initiative with the control of the d file (Stockfish likes black better there though). Black had some slight troubles on the queenside.
https://en.lichess.org/ppPiqFX2/white#32
I liked the move Bg5-d8 a lot here :
https://en.lichess.org/ppPiqFX2/white#45
A bit inspired by games from Karpov and Smyslov.
The end of the game was a bit of time scramble where I had some more time left.

Again a Karpov games inspiration : putting an opponent piece out of play for as long as possible.
In this game I focused on keeping the black Nb7 out of play.
14.b2b4! was the start of that plan.
https://en.lichess.org/1JlMo1Om/white#25
Other themes in this game : bishop pair, strong squares (c6), file control (c file, a file).
At the end of the game black finally had a chance to make the crippled Nb7 better with Nd8-f7 but refrained doing so.
Ironically the Nb7 was lost at some point.

this is a game where I dont do much, I just create a weakness
of double pawns an exploit that, but since this is about
positional chess I thought it might be helpful for new players,
its an inaccurate game since the beginning I had the plan
of trade the queens and play the endgame but thats better for
white, it was also to avoid opening theory and middlegame etc
just to have a calm game, that ws the idea
sometimes u can win a game without doing anything special
which has its beauty as well, although its kind of lazy
theoretically u have to push all the centipawns otherwise u draw or even lose, but not all the games are the same
I mean, I know they exchange queens in the berlin defence
so I just took that idea, lets exchange queens and play the game, which maybe in this position is bad
but it does not matter for average players
here its the game

its about building a plan somewhat solid and keep the pieces rolling
So the theme is double pawns.

this is a mediocre game, but it might be easy to understand nevertheless, its targeted to new players,
the idea of the game is to play without creativity
and just solid for a beginner, like fianchetto
what I did was, first I allowed a possible trade on f6, to create
and imbalance, then I decided to have e4 control with the bishop and c5, he imitated me playing c4, (plus knight c6) and then I chose the long diagonal
to trade my bad bishop with his good bishop that was the idea,
and then I created a pawn structure which allowed me to have
at least safe play or a draw likeable, like I controlled
all the dark squares stopping white for advancing,
which served in the end for white to blunder distracting his queen with the tactic on g3,
basically its a game where I dont give counterplay
by taking the dark squares, trading the bad bishop and
then making a kingside attack, with the pawns and all my strong pieces there,
so despite it was bad executed or not very well played
its very classical I guess, kind of easy what I do,
I make a kingside attack, first I give no counterplay and take
away his bishop which is defending, and then im ready to attack and in this case its easier to attack than defence putting
pressure in his position and thats about it,
I say its a very common game, because there are plenty of games where there is a kingside attack no,
its very begginer like, we did not fight from the center in move one or two, we just fianchetto and, maneuver or increase the position, so its a way of playing the fianchetto, here there
were like two fianchettos no
here is the game,

Ill try to play better next time, I get overheaated with the computer.

Pawn sac to invite bishop or knight into king attack.

Opponent was my old 8 bit chess board computer with about 2 minutes thinking time per move.
30 years ago i thought it is a incredible strong chess machine ;-)
