I believe that setting an average entry rating is not intended to exclude anyone, but rather to prevent forfeit and encourage evolution to reward players with entry into the AWC.

and one more thing, this is a testing phase, @howlind may still change some things until the tournament date or at the next AWC if necessary. And @PatzerPawn2016 if you register and abandon the tournament you can be banned for 1 year regardless of the situation, this happened to me in 2023, as unfortunately I had to abandon before starting, so it is also important to know if the player is willing to play.

Ummm ok maybe below 1600.And @chrisrapid I mentioned a way to forfeit with no punishment.i won’t play regardless I’m saying for the welfare of other players.

it makes sense
What's the point of adding players below 1800? They never advance to final stage, let alone winning. In group stage they are usually paired with very strong players who nuke them 6-0 in totally uninteresting matches, and the hardest part of the match is to schedule it properly. And sometimes this part even creates risks of the strong player to get forfeited. The (risk+waste of time)/reward ratio for the tournament is totally not worth it.
If you have the skill, lichess provides plenty of tournaments to prove it and get rating. The entry barrier could be as high as 2200+ to be fair, without risking to exclude anyone with chances to win. I do agree with idea to make it lower, since even players in 1800-2000 rating range can sometimes show some interesting ideas. As well as that this threshold is more accessible and more motivating for beginners than 2200. But lowering it even more just adds low quality games to the tournament, creates more headaches and makes the barrier too casual to motivate putting any actual effort in.

Thanks @HowlinD for organising. Can I check how we enter - will there be a team to join or do we need to somehow let you know of our intention by a certain date?

and could we make it 1+0 just so I have half a chance against @ReChesster

Yeah I agree with @Wolfram_EP . Even though we cannot deny the fact that a big lot of 2100+ rated players only have their rating because of hyperfarming. Not that they're bad at atomic, they're all most certainly part of the atomic elite. The point I'm trying to make is that at slower time controls the chances of winning shift. There definitly wont be a AWC with a rating of less than 2300. But as Wolfram said, weaker player have great ideas and good days, too (sometimes).
Personally I believe that a Top200 Leaderboard position or alternatively 1950 elo should be a minimum requirement in order to join. It is an important event, yes. And the more people are included, the more the AWC will gain traction and be talked about. On the other hand it's all up to the organizer @HowlinD , regarding how much time and eneryge they're willing to invest. More players means more effort.
But in the end, 1800's too low. If just half the people >1800 join, we'll have a 300+ people tournament.

Thank you for the feedback Wolfram.
To answer the question in your first sentence: I strongly agree about players in the 1800-2000 rating range being able to show some interesting ideas. I'm also open to think it could be the case if we extend that thinking to 1700.
Given the overall feedback I have received by private messages, I'm fine with 1700 being the threshold for this year. Combined with the fact that the first round consists in the lower-seeded entrants facing eachother, I think it should still give higher-rated players a closer and more interesting first match. I hope this partly adresses your concerns.

Thank you Paul, appreciate it. What happens now is that I will soon make a new post which will explain all the rules, and how to sign up. It will be posted in the "Atomic WC" team, and on my profile. Make sure to follow this team, and look for information there.
Keep in mind, everyone, that the "Atomic WC" team will always contain all the information you need to know!
