Post-Mortem of our Longest Downtime

I am thinking from a common player's perspective, it is upto the legal team to decide if this will be an adequate compensation.

Best involuntary troll attempt.

That would be a kind of compensation, but not an adequate one, in my humble opinion. And companies do that, they don't just refund but upgrade the membership of players, for example silver to gold. But, since lichess does not have a membership program, they can give patron wings for a month each time a user made a hit on lichess' servers during the downtime. The server logs are still going to be there.

We as chess players rely on lichess' 99.9999% availablity to get our hourly fix.

Welcome to the new compensation culture where people want money for something they didn't even pay for. I can see that the irony of my original reply was lost on you... Pretty sure the legal team won't be wasting any time on your suggestion, but thanks for the feedback!

Instead, all Lichess can offer is free chess for everyone, forever, with no ads and no trackers.

It has been a while. I think it was a voluntary muscle spasm kind of attempt. A mosquito is biting you, you will have to move your hands to shoo it @QueenRosieMary said in #42:

You mean what YOU got that she didn't?

Same ratings in same variants, same period of accounts creation, even same weird time controls such as 1.5+2 and 1/4+3.

Thanks for clarifying and explaining what happened. I think we are all happy to be able to play on lichess. So much work goes into this entire awesome project and should not be taken for granted. I'm sure this crash only made lichess stronger and paves the way into an even better future. Thx to all the people who made this project happen to this day! All the best!

You should thank them by becoming a monthly donor.

I think it is totally correct if Lichess would refund 1/360 of the yearly membership fees, obviously this is the way to go.
I would suggest Lichess calculates a yearly membership fee for users who like this, the user pays it and Lichess refunds 1/360 of that amount.
The only way how Lichess will learn to avoid another downtime, justice has won! ;-)

How about a dinner with Thibault himself to top it all off?

Only for paid memberships before 2020 should be enough - but i don't know how often Thibault gets hungry ;-)

@Lichess I work at AWS as a solution architect. I can probably help you find a cost efective disaster recovery strategy. PM me if you want to talk about it.
