During the last lichess outage there was a notification that the status of Lichess could be found on X.com or Discord.
However as I don't have an account for either I found it difficult to review the status.
For x.com it actually seemed like everything was fine (it showed some normal posts, and even after scrolling quite a bit I did not see anything about an outage).
Discord first suggested I could easily view the channel, but then 'there is something unusual about my signup' (perhaps a lot of people wanting to check the channel suddenly during an outage...), so it requested me to put in my phone number which I would not like to do.
In the end I ended up on some reddit post where someone had found a message on X.com and copied it there so I had some understanding of what to expect, but this did prompt me to make this suggestion.
I would have thunk that Lichess was running on AWS or Google Cloud.
Is it perhaps the cost that makes that path less interesting / viable?
I would think that most of the "required physical action in the datacenter" types of issues would not be present in a cloud environment.
If it is a cost issue that keeps Lichess from running on AWS or similar I would be happy to reach out to the cloud computing platform of Lichess' choice and see if special pricing could be arranged for such an esteemed .org as ourselves!
I love Lichess and appreciate the transparency re the outage - and the quick action(s) to rectify.
Best regards,

You are a great team. The service is very pleasant, intuitive and ergonomic, graphicaly beautiful and of a high quality and at the same time it is free and ads-free. As a system administrator myself I know how difficult it would be to set up and test a robust failsafe solution and prepare for unfortunate scenarios - I hope at this rate of downtimes you don't need to bother. Hopefully everyone understands and forgives that and even loosing some rating points shouldn't be that much of a disaster. Keep up the good work!
A huge thank for the explanation. Root causes are about redondancy. I personnally think, that extra money to deal with this redondancy issue with OVH is worth thinking instead of "constructing" redondancy over OVH. It will be more effective for the money. OVH are very professionnal btw.
But as a user of this website, I'll never forget that all of that runs on free (as in freedom) code and volunteers, an if there is a downtime. I'll deal with it and will get checkmated tomorow. No pressure :-D Big up to all dev/tech members. We love you.
No machine can run forever. They all must break, and every server will fail sooner or later.

We already saw your post 4 days ago, it seemed reasonable and will be considered.
Thanks for clarifying and explaining what happened. i hope the lichess platform gets better and better.
OVH should learn from AWS to respond fast to open tickets
And I thought the people posting about getting 20 blacks in a row were exaggerating lol, turns out it was the debt
