Does bullet chess make you better or worse?

This is not argument. Im sorry to tell you, but if you have played 55000 bullet games and *still* you are 2150, that only is hinting you that you have wasted a couple of years of chess development in order to play chess pieces fast, not well. 2150 might seem like an accomplishment, but is not. Not trying to put you down. The proof is in the cake, you have no balance in your rating, all the slower modes, you are 300, 400 points below. The slower the mode, the worse you will play. It's just the way it is.

... I have only played 134 blitz games and 48 rapid games versus 55,000 bullet games.

That is more than a 300-to-1 ratio! (Or 400-to-1 and 1100-to-1 when you consider each separately!!!)

So it is not proper to draw such conclusions.

I've barely played enough of longer time controls for my rating to not be a ? ... I don't know what my slower time controls rating is. I know from limited experience that I try to play Blitz and Rapid like Bullet, and then usually quit halfway through out of boredom.

If I ever hit 2400+ in bullet from casual play, I'll start taking chess more seriously and let you know how that goes :)
Here's my take:
Recently i had been playing almost exclusively bullet, which i stopped about a month ago (i still play it). My bullet rating has really improved, even hitting 2100 at times. however, this KILLED my slower ratings (except classical, which it didn't really affect bc i barely play that). my rapid went from low 1800 to high 1600-low 1700, lower than i was over a year ago. my blitz has gone down to 1850, when i hit 2050 a few (?) months ago. all in all, bullet chess doesn't hurt if you play it occasionally, but if you play it too much it can really hurt your slower chess, and even blitz. this is just personal experience, other people might have different outcomes of only playing bullet of course.

> Well, but HyperBullet is boring. Is not bullet, it's more fast and the moves are random. Just try to win an HyperBullet but don't think in the time. It's so boring. The Stockfish are programmed for play with you searching moves. The stockfish level 1 is so bad in all the types of chess... except in hyperbullet. It always have a move and he will win you.

> So I think Bullet mode is so good, but HyperBullet is so boring and bad
not true, that's ultrabullet
for good or even decent players HB requires some skill but a lot of quick thinking and decision making
When you play a bullet game you have almost no time for any tactics, no internal thought, and no improvement. Many of you will disagree with me, but it's sad for me to know that people play a different kind of chess, on a chess website, rather than actually playing it. Bullet = Race.
This is correct because, bullet chess makes you play very fast, so in real in-person tournaments with a time control as 25+5 (for example) you will play very fast and not think about the moves as much as you when you were playing a chess tournament before playing bullet or ultrabullet chess. A effect on this can be your rating going down.

Thanks for this article

My highest rating is my bullet rating but I only play it rarely to pass time and relax. Bullet chess does not improve your chess.
What about rapid time controls as a beginner, is 15/10 a good time control? Getting good and serious classical games online is pretty hard sonetimes, but I might try 15/10 if the consensus is that it is good for improvement :-)
