Thanks John for a great write-up and for your time making all of these videos! Still working my way through and it's just a blast to watch. What a great gift to the community.

PS - by the way John, think you were +8, -1, =2

Thank you for that catch! Just edited the post.

Hey John, again thank you for enriching our community with both your games and your video coverage! Your blog post reaffirms what I've always believed and practiced ever since I played my first teamleague event back in ~2010 on FICS:

There IS a place for long-time-control chess in the online sphere. And that it is by far the most fulfilling type of chess, both with regards to appreciation of the depth of chess as well as improvement.

I hope to see you again in one of the competitions, be it Lonewolf or Teamleague. And who knows, maybe we one day will cross swords in one of those events!
Good luck and all the best for your future endeavours and to you personally!

Best regards,
Your long time fan Alparslan

Probably one of the most interesting publication I have read here. Thanks

Hey John,

The LoneWolf games were an absolute treat to watch. They inspired me to jump ship to Lichess and become a patron here as well!

Thank you for being such a great ambassador of the game. This blog post is an excellent summary of the advice you've given on your channel over the years. I've learned so much from your videos on longer time controls. Your content is a major reason why I've picked up and kept with chess as a hobby this year. Extra cool that you're a fellow Minnesotan as well :)

Sorry for the personal plug, but I'd be chuffed if you took a look my blog post that I just published on my personal site on lessons learned as a chess beginner.

Smh, didn’t even answer the main thing I wanted to know: did you ever find your electric kettle?!

Great series John, enjoyed being along for the ride every second of the way!

I’ve been playing primarily online blitz for as long as I’ve been playing chess because there’s not any clubs or tournaments at all in my immediate area, but you’ve inspired me to give the league a try.

45/45 might be a little long for me to start but I may well have to take a stab at 30/30 next time they’re registering.

First thing’s first, gotta get my classical rating out of provisional territory...

What a fantastic post, John! The insights you gave - I can see it as a mirror from my own classical games!

I loved the series! It is really instructive watching strong players spend time and explain their thought process. I don't find watching strong players playing blitz games that instructive at all. Thanks for all the effort you put into it!

I joined late but it was a treat watching the series and the suspense was really cool. It was very nice having a long video that moves slower, feels very cozy for some reason! and a lot of time to digest what's happening is good too
