Have a look at FPGA's. You can now purchase PCIe 3/4 cards. These have been used for Bitcoin mining.
Another avenue to explore is given in the link.

Synaptic is one of the companies' that makes these boards, to slot into your P.C.
I did some research when I was making a bit of money Bitcoin Mining.
FPGA was used to create an USB ASICs. link.
