Have you ever thought of this question:why are the knights the only piece that can jump over pieces? I mean ,every time you enter a beginner’s chess lesson, one of the things you hear about pieces is that the knight is the only piece that can jump over pieces. So what if we invented a new piece, that can also jump over pieces? I realized that this would be not possible in standard chess, so why not have a new variant that can have this piece.
In my mind I already knew what this piece would be like:it would be more or less like rook.It can move the same as a rook but the its methods of taking would be different . . .so it would have to jump over a piece to take another piece! For example,if this piece is on A1, a pawn was on A6 and a rook was on A8, then this piece would jump over the pawn and take the rook, but it could never take the pawn ,if a piece never between them.
Now ,I only solved one problem, there were two more:what would the piece and the variant be called and where to put this piece on the board. I decided to called the piece :cannon, since its methods of taking pieces are similar to a medieval cannon( of course it would look like a cannon). The variant would be called :Cannon Chess(no surprises there). As for where to put the piece ,it took me a long time to decide. At last ,I decided that there would be two cannons on each side ,for white they would be on B3 and G3, for black they would be B6 and G6.I also realize that the cannon is pretty exposed , so ,in the starting position, the B and G pawns on both sides would be pushed two squares ahead.
That just leaves us with one more problem , the piece value. For the piece value it would be four points(don’t ask me why).
Overall , thanks for reading this and I really hope that Lichess would make this a new variant and that you enjoyed this.PS:you can discuss your opinions in the forum(I will check regularly)
