I will update the manual with more details, @b105g , but usually the themes serve a purpose, they are not structured. They are just CSS (style) scripts to change the way Lichess looks.
Maybe they should be structured
For example the "mobile" theme is to be used when playing on mobile. What does it do? Whatever I thought helps on mobile without imposing anything on the player. For others the name is usually pretty much explanatory.
Mobile theme, actually, it's a bit of a monster, as Lichess looks awful on mobile for anyone doing anything else than play. Analysis and studies in particular suck ass. I am open to any suggestions for improvement, as always.
Remember that these are just stylistic changes. There are mobile experience and mobile play tools that add functionality.
