I don't like John Nunn's books. They look like author was trying include everything thought no one topic is discussed clearly and systematized

How I Studied/Played Chess During 2021

Feel free to share what you studied and improved in Chess in 2021!

Great subject KingClash!

To improve at chess in 2021, I did the following...

1.) ReRead Silman’s Endgame Course (Jan 2021-April 2021)
2.) Worked through about 1/3 of Woodpecker Method, doing the cycles that the Method requires (April 2021-July 2021)
3.) Became a lichess Patron (a commitment thing in my mind)
4.) Purchased a dozen or so Chessable courses.
5.) Switched my white repertoire to a Catalan based repertoire starting in roughly July 2021.
6.) Played a classical rated OTB tournament in October 2021. 5 round Swiss. First OTB tournament in almost 10 years! First one since returning to chess.
7.) Switched to the Alekhine as black against e4 in November 2021. Scoring well with it.
8.) Did a one hour, one on one paid lesson on skype with a retired 2700 FIDE rated player in March 2021. He analyzed my games and gave me some good advice. I’m not going to name drop so don’t ask.
9.) Joined an adult improver chess discord channel with regular meetings with other adult improvers. I find it both fun and motivating.
10.) Watched most of the ChessDojo videos.
11.) Listened to the Perpetual Chess Podcasts that mainly pertained to adult improvers.

In 2022 my plan is to...

1.) Read/Study “Chess Structures:A Grandmaster Guide” by Flores Rios. January 2022- April 2022
2.) By the spring time (April-ish) my plan is to begin to Read/Study “100 Endgames You Must Know” April 2022-July 2022.
3.) Work through the rest of Woodpecker Method starting in July 2022.
4.) Play in more classical OTB tournaments.
5.) Keep refining and improving my repertoire with specific focus on the Catalan as white and Alekhine as Black.
6.) Probably pay for regular lessons. Considering trying a local FIDE Master (his rating is almost IM caliber). I met him in a parking lot already to buy books from him. Nice guy. I’ll probably start that in the spring some time. Hopefully do the lessons in person.
7.) Towards the end of 2022 I’d like to work through either Fischer’s 60 Memorable Games, or Botvinnik’s 100 Selected Games.
8.) Play one classical time control game per day.

In 2021(near the end) i finally realised how much chess are important for me. It is not a quality improvement but it is the begginning. From 2022 chess will be my heart and my life. Chess played on my own, with my rules/openings.
