Forum Debate: Is it better to learn tactics or strategy?

Person 5: it is better to learn both, because chess is tactics and strategy. Tactics = short term strategy, strategy = long term tactics.

I still don't understand what is strategy . I always think both are same

Chess is 99% tactics. That doesn’t mean it’s 99% tactics trainer, be cautious.

The real question is: theory or practice? And here I suggest practice >> theory.

Chess is both a strategy and a tactical game.

I think it depends on what openings you play. I'd recommend first studying the opening you play and have a think if it's a very tactical (normally King's pawn Opening) or more of a strategical game (normally Queen's Pawn opening or the English Opening.

you have to take on Both together.
you can't just play with no game plan at all.
but don't overdo strategy. Tactics is more important, spend more time on it.

I'd say tactics till you reach 1800-1900 then you can start to branch out.

@Knight04 for you tactics is better; as it gives you chance for three check top 100 trophy.

but generally speaking; now you should be switching to strategy at this level
