Should Lichess really allow any player to put their FIDE rating?

Hi Everyone! You might remember me as I made a topic yesterday as well. Now on to the topic! This is sort of a difficult question for me to answer, but I think I have came to a conclusion. I think that Lichess should NOT allow random players to select their rating as the player could be lying and trying to show off. But Lichess should allow actual Fms, Gms, Ims, etc. The way lichess will know who are Fms, Gms etc is that players can contact the customer service to prove their eligibility, as it will also prove a lot of honesty.

I agree, if you are in a tournament and you see someone with a 3000 rating, you will feel discouraged and leave the tournament. Instead, you could have won and got rating. Lichess gives lots rating to players who won opponents with bigger rating. Ex: 1000 vs. 1900, 1000 wins and gets +500 rating. Its not fair because it shows that rating can be inaccurate. I think players should have a chess test to test how good the players are. Hope this comment helps!

Was that you?

(And btw you do have the option of not believing a posted 3000 FIDE rating. And titled players prove their eligibility with ID--not a rating list.))

That's the old issue which they aren't correcting. I can see many fake FIDE ratings by users in their profile. But don't worry, fake ratings don't make them champion. They have to prove that they are really high rated with some source for untitled players. For titled players, they can submit the registration form.

If you have a FIDE rating, then you have a Membership number. Same with ECF rating, I have put my ID up also my rating. If you play the scheduled games, you can obtain an online rating.
