Chess.com says it has too many users and I have to try later for a live game • page 4/5 • General Chess Discussion • lichess.org

There was recently a surge of new accounts. Many have names like <random-word><unrelated-random-word><random-number> and play like bots - all day long, all night long. Their moves don't make sense for their level, or just plain don't make sense.

Servers tanking in the middle of games, seeking matches, etc, etc.

(Now btw - I am a technologist / computer programmer. I can tell you for sure that if CC was even slightly competently put together, it should be able to handle 100x the traffic they claim without much in the way of hardware. I'd get it if the cloud analysis was slow/busy, but it's the core database / gameplay. Terrible. Who knows what kind of madness is actually going on over there, but it's all fishy.)

Lichess isn't garbage as far as playing chess on the server. i think it's the best I've played on.

It wasn't ok before and now with the added delays even worse. You're right that it's not better than lichess.

I personally don't feel I've run into many cheaters on either site, but the claim that there are 'more' here on lichess.com resulted in a couple of questions:

Does it really bother you if someone cheats online? From my view, it is simply an opportunity to look for the best moves while playing a strong opponent/engine...in the end, yes I may lose ELO but the cheater will most likely never cross my path again and they are, of course, a cheater at the end of the day.
Are there any metrics that can show more cheating on a given chess site?

The cheating, while real, isn't internet chess's biggest problem. Lag distorts ratings and hampers play far more. No site that I know of adjusts ratings at all based on lag. They actually worsen the problem by trying to compensate one side with extra time.
