This sounds fishy. Has their popularity really risen (I doubt it, they kinda suck) or is their server falling apart even more?

Not used chess.com that much and never heard of anything like that.

Chess dot com has a lot of paid influencers (Twitch, Youtube) and so their followers play also on chess dot com.

Currently, these influencers have discoverd TikTok and found new customers there (In combination with Mittens, which is a bot with a cat avatar. TikTok users love cats.)

Plus crazy stories like Niemann and anal pearls. TikTok users love such stories also (TikTok users are young).
