Would you rather have a cat or a dog?

Dogs have emotions. They calculate. They make brief plans. They mourn when they lose an owner. They are NOT vegetables.

Most animals you eat fall in that category.

What about grasshoppers?

Wasnt aware you ate insects. Well, insects, for the most part at least, dont fall in that category.

Among the animals, dogs are unusually sentient. Like apes and dolphins. Like some posters I could name but shall not.

Why not? Because I don't want to endure an endless chorus of "but what bout ME-eeeee" coming from every Tom, Dick and Karen.

By the way, "Karen" should NOT be used as a derogatory nickname. There are many very nice Karens in the world, who are unusually sentient.

Furthermore, don't overlook squirrels, and I DON'T mean "for making pie." At least one brilliant YouTuber has demonstrated the remarkable cleverness of squirrels. So -- no squirrel pie, if you ask me -- although nobody did.

And, by the way, I don't see why we have to approve of something, reflexively, just because the "culture" card is played,

Historically, cannibalism has been practiced in some cultures, as well as torturing captives of war. Some cultures refuse to educate young women, because they're women. Some cultures poke fun at the REAL football (and ask anyone in Liverpool if you're not sure what THAT is).

Do we have to approve of such things as soon as somebody says, knowingly, "it's their, uhm, culture" ?

Really? I long for more practical times, when wise folks were unafraid to articulate foundational principles for fear of being labeled unfashionable or intolerant.

Tolerance is a great thing -- but it need not supplant common sense and reasonable empathy for those who suffer unnecessarily, regardless of their social standing or species.

Ok I wanna make that clear cause a moderator deleted it seeing it as racism as well probably: I was joking about a cliche of China. I don‘t think we have to discuss about the fact that cliches are NOT the case or at least not for everyone. Even if we would talk about this as a serious meant sentence this doesn’t seem like a real problem to me. Everyone can eat what they want and there’s no problem with different cultures even if they seem weird to people with another culture. In my opinion this has NOTHING to do with racism but of course I accept the moderators decision.
@Appleguy306 just so you see it because you saw it as racism.

Ay bro, if i make a joke like "Germany is so dumb because of Aldof" do you think that is racism, ps it is mean to say my kind eats dog and cats. Just because some bad people are in a country doesnt mean that all people are.

If you say people in diff culture eat different things is fine. Then why did you relate chinese to eating dogs and cats. Like bruh, stop defending yourself. Just go on and ill forget this happened
Sigh "Cliche" these days is a bit out of hand

With regard to #76:

Yes, @Appleguy306, sweeping generalizations are always hazardous, including this one!

For example, not EVERYBODY in the United States pokes fun at the REAL football. So , I would merely joke about "those" who do -- regardless of any asserted Culture Defense -- but I would NOT joke about the entire country. At least, not with respect to football.

The "other" football is pretty good, too, after all. And some Americans like both types of football. And with that, I can definitely agree.
