Trying to think of a totally inane subject for a pointless thread.

How about analyzing the theory behind fools mate?

@SavageAntarctican
I like that idea, humans need to get started on that problem. Short of quantum computers on the task, it can be knocked out in, what, ten billion years?

I'm not going to relent from the idea of extending opening theory back to move zero, the starting position, I'm going to look for a novelty there. It should be there, maybe with a wormhole or a gateway.

Umm...
@SavageAntarctican Any particular reason for 2... d5?? Seems to me like 2...Qh4++ would be better for black

@morphyms1817 You can extend it as far back as possible. For example, move -15:

You reach the starting position (after move 0 is over) only after 16 moves.

It is easily possible to invent so many knight tangos that return the knights back to their original squares...

@clousems You can transpose to that position in many different ways (the position in post #143).

#146 should be kept under wraps from the 1,000,000 horsey crowd, lichess would never be the same.

But im going to create a study for this opening and like you said, I'll begin with move -15.

@SavageAntarctican Fool's Mate occurs on move 2. There aren't that many transpositions for a two move checkmate.

A Chinese science expedition to summit Mt. Everest is currently staged, with summiting projected for Friday. As part of regular scientific measurements, the height of the mountain will be measured.

INANE CONTEST:
What will be the current height of Everest when its measured by the scientific expedition this week?

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

In 1975 the height of Everest was 29,029 feet (8848m). In 2005, 29,017 feet (8844.4).

Everest and surrounding regions were shaken by a 7.8 earthquake in 2015 that caused major avalanches.
