@Mopman Wuhan was a perfect location for this virus because it is a huge industrial and transportation hub of 11 million people with a very large migrant population traveling in and out of the city on a daily basis (30K plus per day). Political establishment did not cause the virus to spread but did not do much to mitigate until after the holiday. Another significant complication is Wuhan did not have the capacity to isolate and treat people.
But does any of this matter? Blaming China would be like blaming the US for the 39 million AIDS related deaths. It is widely accepted that HIV originated in Africa but the US was the major source of spread and obviously withheld information that would have been informative to the world. No country is going to do anything significant to China.
The virus originated out of Wuhan, so it is the China virus.
@taxirip the US outbreak originated from Europe. The Europe outbreak originated from SARS-CoV-2 positive European athletes returning from China. The China outbreak is zoonotic in origin. The US should hold bats responsible.
" The US should hold bats responsible."
We should eat them as punishment. That'll teach them!

@Katzenschinken lot of people do eat bats.... I don't because they are also associated with a high rate of neurological disease. But if you are so inclined, I'm told they are good roasted or in a stir fry

Daniel , could not a similar thing be said of the United States areas hit hardest by the Virus ? If China was unable to control things given those circumstances why should the US Be expected to ?
Is there a reason to hold the United States to a higher standard than China ?
Daniel , I am unable to find any references to the United States withholding any research on HIV/AIDS could you please send some links?
It's not that I don't eat bats, it's just that I've never noticed one being on my plate. That's not to say that there've been a few in all the chinese food I've had.
