That's how normal people imagine really smart people act and talk.

When I had the opportunity in school, I would tease and taunt the Nerdy Kids - clique to death. I was kind of an a-hole in that way.

I would never deem myself a nerd, but for some peculiar reason Chess player are regarded as such.

I don't want to spam your thread too much, but again, looking at the portrayal of those nerdy characters, what I see is a narrow range of interests that they excel in, coupled with a small dose of arrogance, and a lack of social skills (because their skills are only in specialized areas).

Admittedly, these special interests usually are some form of intellectual pursuit, but even artists can be called nerds, music nerd, film nerds, etc. The sole defining quality of a nerd is an investment, obsession, addiction, or heavy interest in a topic, activity, science, or skill set.

In my view.
