Does anybody know how to open stubborn pickle jars?

Step 1: gather some liquid nitrogen
Step 2: have it break the glass
Step 3: eAt ThE pIcKlEsSsSs (might be frozen too but you can make a pickle smoothie or something)

flawless

the problem might be getting liquid nitrogen and the fact the glass will shatter at a high speed but uh that's minor issues good luck

Take an old sweater or a piece of fabric that is not too thick but sturdy, preferably not wool, and wrap it around the lid of the jar. Hold the jar as firmly as possible with one hand, and with the other, try to turn the lid wrapped with the fabric while making a reverse rotation movement to the jar relative to the lid. Repeat the operation until it works.

@greenteakitten
I always just tapped the edge of the lid with the back edge of a butter knife.

Can I make a homemade version? If I spend money on this pickle jar the pickle jar wins :/

Give up. The pickle jar has defeated you!
All hail the pickle jar!

Seems like you're in a bit of a pickle ;) Not really, you already got some tips that do work nicely. And if all else fails you can always do a LaRusso https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAo-ph-QBWU

I generally use @NeuralGnat 's idea, a rubber jar-opener, and that usually works great. I've also had success with rubber gloves. In case these don't work or you don't have these items, try heating up the lid a bit over the stove on very low for a minute or two. Hold the edge of the lid where it meets the glass close to the burner and rotate the jar so that the lid's edge is heated all over. This will cause the metal to expand a bit, just enough to loosen the lid and enable you to unscrew it. I had to do this once or twice and it worked. One time I asked my manly-man gym-rat teenage son to open a jar, and he loved the attention and the chance to help. Anyways, hope you can get to those pickles, @greenteakitten !

Run hot water over the lid of the jar.
The lid will expand.
Now twist and open.
You're welcome !

Thank you everyone for helping!

So far, I have tried some of the more feasible strategies here and the score is now

Pickles 10
Cherry 0

I just wanted to have a proper sandwich :(( Oh well I'm going to try again tomorrow and maybe eventually I'll loosen it (or find somebody that can open it, maybe I'm just weak!)
