I see the questions about metal. I got more deeply interested in rock genres in 1979. Foundations of metal to me in those days was not all strictly metal. It came from psychedelic, blues, hard rock. Zeppelin was considered primal metal, I don't know if Zeppelin considered themselves to be metal, they were concerned with taking blues in a new direction. Jimi Hendrix playing with lots of distortion and control of feedback was influential. Iron Butterfly was a very heavy band. Black Sabbath.

Idk if that's good or bad but metal can be pretty versatile.
Swing metal

Flamenco metal

Opera, experimental (not the most metallish song by them, but it's my favorite)

Experimental. genre crossover, avant garde is where it's at for me.

Sabbath is metal granddady of course and I did not live back then so I don't know how Zeppelin, Rush and similar were viewed. Maybe it's because genres got pushed a lot further but I hear the 70s guitar tone and it's automatically classic rock to me.

@i-bex sounds good to me.
I also like cross-pollination efforts. The metal dosage here is like a spice, it has dynamics in the mood impact.

Yeck... Sounds like some Christian music festival!
Count me out.
I prefer my rock music with a Devils touch.
