@paradoxial First, I would not get too hung up on the name given as an example by
@Walter1942 . I am confident that it is not the only instance of a racist username on Lichess. Getting hung up on one name is missing the point entirely.
Second, I am not a person of colour (so, you know, big proviso there), but if I try and put myself in their shoes I imagine that regardless of that user's personal reasons for having that name, it would make me feel unwelcome on the platform. Allowing names like that sends a message that this is a place where racism will be tolerated -- something that Lichess have rightly stated they do not want to do (see the statement referred to by
