I am asking for a new feature guys, In the flag one in our edit profile, Our Countries real name is "Hindustan" not "India", It is India but it was named by the British. Our Hindustanis named our country "Hindustan". Can you add Hindustan also? Or like Rename It. If you want you can put it in the last and like remain India there.

To Dearest Britishers.

@rabbit_beast @Toadofsky fyi hindustan is hindi word and was also named by foriegners. our ancient name is bharata linked to sanskrit and India is oficially declared name which is rooted with the river indus and need not to be changed at all. british and the modren day london is no same , donnot bring it here. you can call this country with more than hundred names and that doesnt mean it should be used officially. i am telling this as an indian and whole hearted devotion towards it.

A country with over 1 billion people is bound to have disagreements over some things, even the name of the country itself.

I ended it here ... with the link about naming the country as ‘Bharat’ or ‘Hindustan’.

Once the country makes the decision of renaming or not it's country, the rest of the world will learn from it.

@ any Lichess moderator
This reminds me of a different, but similar issue.

Since around 2021-2022 Turkey have asked for the country name to be written in English as Türkiye.
It's already implemented many places internationally, even in the United Nations.
However Lichess still writes it as Turkey.
I believe this situation is comparable to the name change of Burma to Myanmar, which Lichess for example have changed in the past, so I see no reason for Lichess not to change Turkey's/Türkiye's spelling. (Except if an oversight?)

@rabbit_beast Hindustan isn't used internationally. If India wants to use it as an international name, that requires political incentive from the Indian parliament. So if you want this change, you should bring it up to your parliament.
As @Toadofsky mentioned in #7, a name change like that, is bound to cause controversy amount the Indian part of the Lichess community.

@srikara999 Absolutely. Well said.

@rabbit_beast I pasted the website for the constitution of India below. Take a look at page 33 in the pdf. It states, "India, that is Bharat" ... in case you didn't know, Bharat is the proper name and taken from an ancient king who defined the nation as including all people from Kashmir to Kanyakumari ... all are Bharatiyas.

Hindustan, as Srikara said, is a foreign name, which you can see clearly in the naming of countries like Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, etc. They name it such because the ending word "-stan" means 'place' or 'settlement' in Persian/Arabic. You can see that the language itself is foreign, so it has nothing to do with India.

Hope that is helpful.
