Since around 2021-2022 Turkey have asked for the country name to be written in English as Türkiye.
It's already implemented many places internationally, even in the United Nations.
However Lichess still writes it as Turkey.
I believe this situation is comparable to the name change of Burma to Myanmar, which Lichess for example have changed in the past, so I see no reason for Lichess not to change Turkey's/Türkiye's spelling. (Except if an oversight?)

yes, especially thibault doesnt get any ping because he wrote a code to not get pings, so it's literally pointless to ping devs.

Hello,

I am asking for a new feature guys, In the flag one in our edit profile, Our Countries real name is "Hindustan" not "India", It is India but it was named by the British. Our Hindustanis named our country "Hindustan". Can you add Hindustan also? Or like Rename It. If you want you can put it in the last and like remain India there.

To Dearest Britishers.
I am not spreading hate to you, I know you will be angry? Huh?

Ok, Sorry but I have to ping.
@thibault , @Nojoke , @ EVERY LICHESS DEVELOPER

Shukriya,
(Thank you,)

@rabbit_beast FYI hindustan is a Hindi word and the ancient name of India is Bharatvarsha, which means the land of Bharata (which is from Sanskrit text), and this country can be called by many names like hindustan, India, Bharata etc and it doesn't mean that it has only one name and all the other names are wrong. It is named India by the river Indus.Do not bring this matter here in the forums. It is not that India has only one name.

I prefer India.
If I go tell someone, "Hi, I'm from India", they'll know where I'm from, By If I say something like, "Hi, I'm from Hindustan" or "Hi, I'm from Bharath", etc they'll have to search it up and be like where is that place... never heard of it.
India is like an internationally recognized name, in fact even by the citzens of India. Changing it because it had another name earlier make no sense honestly.

In chess too, People don't talk about Viswanathan Anand as a former world champion from Hindustan, They refer to him as a former world champion from India.

What's a word for folding a chessboard: Plicature... Licature ... Lichess ... Catur.
Nostalgia: Will the name chess be changed back to Catur or Chaturanga?
Words or names don't last for eternity. They change meaning over time.

I am not from India, but I can see all the different points of view. Lichess should probably leave this as is. Users can have a blurb in their profile saying where they are from, and use the name they like to use for their country.
