After playing more games here and having been on both sides of the coin in regards to this feature: I see how it works itself out naturally. If they're going to just run the clock down I can bump +15 a few times to let them know it's probably not worth wasting their own time over. They're free to resign whenever they want.

True, but this can backfire if they still refuse to resign, because then you have to wait even longer for the flag.

@ #22: Of course. I was just highlighting that this wasn't anywhere near as detrimental as I first thought.

It's against the rules of chess to change the rules in the middle of the game. Serious chess players do change the time control after the game begins. There should be a way to turn off this feature. Many people want this problem fixed but so far this request has been ignored.
