Opponent Adding Time

Old Boy...what a fucked up film. One wouldn't think that chess could be comparable, but I have heard of a redneck who shot somebody over a game.

Adding time is useful - when my opponent loses connection I will often give them +15 back to their original amount of time if they come back within a minute or so.

Listen!!! It's not just a redneck thing: I had a fellow tell me he was going en passant on me and I cut his jewels off with a dull knife before he could do it (he sings soprano w/ the NY Met. Opera now)

@ chunkey.... you gave me a great laugh & have a career as a HOLLYWOOD director... [? The soul of a player: A fork in the road...]
And, I AM part Italian.. HE showed no RESPECT

It sounds like you have some serious moral issues to deal with there...I'm appalled at your take on justice. O.O

Maybe adding time should have options like takebacks - never, only friends, in casual games only or always (and by friends I mean both players following each other). As someone who frequently loses their internet connection (as Chunky knows all too well), I get annoyed when I run out of time, but can soon get the points back and all is forgotten... But I don't like people who assume I will give them time, or those who are in time trouble giving me time when I have enough as a sort of "now you must return the favour". Having options would remove these problems.

That might be worthy of a different suggestion though - 'suspend game'? Very interesting - agree to pick up an ongoing game at a later time? We've all had games when the real world rudely interrupts....

Meh - adjournment would just lead to engine use - though again, it could be a "friends only" or casual option.

Only with people that are likely to cheat though as you've said.....nobody designs a feature for a cheater I'm sure.....If somebody asked to suspend the game - it would be up to you as the opponent to decide if you're willing to take the risk.....If they needed to adjourn to consider an outside source - it might even be another plus point of the option....similar to correspondence? Let's face it...if somebody is determined to cheat, they've probably advanced past the stage where they're going to as for a toilet break.......
Bang goes the argument :D

I don't see why anyone would complain about having more time added to there clock. If you are waiting for your own clock to run out then you should be resigning.

Often times when I have an opponent in a lost or a bit worse position that is about to run out of time I will add clock for them for psychological reasons. It can invoke them to move more quickly and get the game over with sooner.

People who wait around to run out of time can annoy me.
