What's the point of the flags? I don't care where my opponents are from as long as they are nice players.

Also: you can already see their language, so in most cases that is sufficient.

I, as a Catalan, would leave lichess.org if I were forced to play with the Spanish flag. Like me, sure there are other players who don't like to be represented by a flag. And I cannot see the need.

i agree with vitus and point no further than this forum where there is plenty of racist discussions being logged. There is no reason to give these people an easier way to troll and or spew hate at people.

If you're really that worried about racist slander, just don't display your flag. But I'm sure there would be plenty of other people happy to see this feature (including myself).

Heck, display another country's flag that you do like for all I care.

The only opposition to this feature in this thread is from people who would not use or care about it in this first place. So why are you so against it?

НЕ НАДО никакого ФЛАГА страны,мы тут собираемся как ЧАСТНЫЕ лица любители поиграть в шахи.У многих есть паспорта со многими названиями стран мира,сейчас это не проблема,главное ДЕНЕГ побольше и будешь гражданином ЛЮБОЙ страны.Мне это сайт и нравится,что он НЕКОММЕРЧЕСКИЙ.А так понесётся ,сначала флаг,потом реклама продажи товаров и услуг ,покупка фишек,золота и другой дьявольской дребедени....

Hold on. Why are you so worried about that flags? Internet gives us unique chance to unite. I dont want to limit myself with flags, nationalities and boundaries, it shouldnt matter here. In the web we have no borders, but looks like some people want to bring them here. Screw flags, thats my word.
