Need to add flag of country of the player

I'm not sure that I understand. Are you saying that you are against the ability to display your country's flag because it would lead to the monetisation of lichess? Or because it would lead to bigotry between players?

As for the monetisation of lichess. It's been repeated time and time again that lichess will always be free, and never have any advertising. This is one of lichess' promises.

As for the bigotry between players, if you don't want to be insulted or offended, you have the option to not display your flag. I don't think anyone would think any less of you if you decided not to display your flag.

If someone is going to discriminate against you because you decide not to display your flag, they were going to discriminate against you for any other reason anyway and you should not confer with them.

Now, this part is just my opinion. But I'm a bit of a libertarian and would say that you're trying to limit other people's ways of expressing themselves because of your opinion. I don't agree with that.

You claim yourself as libertarian and talking about discrimination, but people would rather discriminate each other if they will saw that flags. Like Iran hates Israel and thousands of other examples. International tensions are complicated this days. Also anonymity is important part of this site, and flags breaks it.

But demagogues like you will find thousands of arguments why flags are so important for us. But I said what I wanted to say. So Im not going to argue here and waste my time anymore.

Just boycott the feature if you don't like it. I personally see people displaying their nationalities as something to be embraced. Doesn't it show to the greater merit of society if we can all get along online while still displaying our heritage? It's an aspect of identity. I'm proud to be Australian and I want the world to know where I'm from. if you don't like that, it's your problem.

Currently the only way to express your individuality on this site is through your user name and a short bio. Other than that, lichess is just different shades of grey where people lack avenues to express themselves as individuals.

The push to have profile images and country flags is (in my opinion) with the aim of allowing users to express their individuality. Shouldn't people's individual ways of expressing themselves be embraced, not suppressed?

Limiting the ways people can express themselves on the grounds of "it will set up divides between players", is the same as saying "people are discriminatory, so I want to erase my identity because I want to get along with discriminatory people". Do you see the flaw in that?

If you really want to keep your mask of anonymity on lichess, that will always remain an option - just play as 'guest'.

LMAO Play as guest yourself, pal. I want to have my chess statistics and all other stuff, that have any relation to chess. But if you want to express your personality by other ways than playing chess, go to the dating site, or deviantart. When at Lichess - express yourself by playing chess. If you are not good enough - learn. If some one is interested in your bio and interests - they will ask.

Also I have no idea how the heck Equilibrium refers to this discussion. Ii is one of my favorite movies, but its not the case here by all means. No one going to limit your emotions. And what flag can tell about you - only tour geographical location, or geographical location of your proxy.

People want to play chess here, thats all. Well, most of people. You and some others probably get more satisfaction from arguing at forum. So, a friendly advice - learn to listen before talk.

I dont understand why so many people want flags badly, like there is nothing else in this world. I dont care about it, but I think the developers of this site should focus at some other aspects. First of all I want to see swiss tournaments system and more chess statistics. And let the flags be as OPTIONAL feature, that will be ok for all sides of this discussion, I think
