I think he said something about replacing it with team chat, like for the social groups.

Not sure if this bug was mentioned.
Something doesn't sync right.
I go here : http://en.lichess.org/forum/lichess-feedback/i-lost-my-elo-score-1#5
You see the green icon by his player name showing him as online.
But when you go to his profile, it plainly says he's offline and that he's closed his account.
Yet, view of the thread says he's online.
idk, small glitch
Actually !!
I have an idea!
So many people are sad that the public main site chat is gone.
Maybe this would be an opportunity to popularize that old #lichess channel.
It's possible we could have an embedded IRC chat on the website in a separate page or something, or people can log onto their IRC clients manually.
People won't even know it's IRC necessarily!
good catch with the online glitch. todolist happily growing.
I'm all for popularizing the IRC channel. But I doubt it will work. I think what people really enjoyed was the ability to quickly post horseshit on a website homepage.
Make it a separate page, and it loses its main interest.
Anyway, I'm targeting tens of thousands players. A single chat with everybody inside just stops making sense. That's why I'm introducing social features. By defining smaller groups of users, we can make forums and chats more useful.
lmao, but they won't even know it's IRC!
I swear, you could design the embedded IRC chat, in a way that they genuinely think it's stored on the server or something.
Yes, it has to be a separate page, but:
a) If people want the main chat back that desperately, I think they'll do whatever they can. Having 2 tabs open isn't difficult.
b) Having the main site chat, on the same page as the chess lobby, kind of sucked. You would be in the middle of typing a message and suddenly your page changes to a new game with someone.
The real problem could be control. I think Happy0 didn't set other mods, but hopefully he didn't make the thing just for the purpose of owning it all to himself.
Does anyone else think having the main site chat / IRC tab in a separate tab/window is an acceptable replacement?
We do need social, smaller groups; I agree. It's just that, sometimes there's like an emergency-ish thing or whatever and, the quick way of asking what happened to the site is to have a fast way to ask everyone.
idk, maybe people are fine doing that in just Lichess Team smaller chats
Who can vote on this?
a) Prefer per-team IM chatting
b) Prefer separate window/tab for main Lichess chat
c) WAAAAAAAAAAAAH GIMME MAIN SITE CHAT BACK
b) Prefer separate window/tab for main Lichess chat
Bah.
Everybody who doesn't vote, doesn't care if we get public non-forum chat again.
I vote for a)
But if I find nothing better to do some day, then I'll go for b) too.
I mean, depending how much you're really for popularizing the channel, could at least advertise it on the left of the lobby for people still wondering where the chat went.
It doesn't have to be you who does the implementation, either. Maybe I should research a little about IRC and figure out how to get an embedded thing working, and you could just link to it.
But idk, per-team is definitely enough chat for people playing in teams.
