I don't know what you mean about an External Engine. Just got back here after a week. I'll try incognito when I can get to it. Currently ill, so it could be days.

Sorry I haven't tried "incognito" yet, but the problem persists.
I got this interesting result trying to analyze a game I just played. The computer analyzes through black move 6...d5, but then indicates "Error Loading Engine" for all subsequent moves! That seems very strange, but I wouldn't really know.
Here is the game:

Here is the console at move 6:
Lichess is open source! https://lichess.org/source lichess.min.js:37:24517
An AudioContext was prevented from starting automatically. It must be created or resumed after a user gesture on the page. lichess.min.js:35:8931
error { target: XMLHttpRequest, isTrusted: true, lengthComputable: false, loaded: 0, total: 0, srcElement: XMLHttpRequest, eventPhase: 0, bubbles: false, cancelable: false, returnValue: true, ... }
analysisBoard.min.js:1:32086
The resource at “https://lichess1.org/assets/_6xFmE4/font/lichess.woff2” preloaded with link preload was not used within a few seconds. Make sure all attributes of the preload tag are set correctly. black

The console at move 7 appears to be the same.

Clear all website data for lichess.org. You'll need to log in again afterwards, but it might fix your problem.

Using latest version of Firefox. More than half the time I play, I get "Error Loading Engine" when I try to get the computer to suggest moves in the Analysis Board. Once it happens, it seems to be a permanent problem for the rest of the day.
I've played here for years, using Firefox. I have NO idea what can be wrong. It has been the case today, so anyone who wants to investigate from the "bug" team can just look at my games from 5/10/23. If that will help. If it is some problem with my computer, what could it be? This has been going on for several weeks.
I use Firefox and it works great. Maybe you could adjust the amount of ram cpu etc allocated because that's what made it bug on some devices I was testing in school.

Hi
Same problem
The fix:
close lichess
surf to lichess
go to analysis board (not a game)
turn off engine
go to your game
let it load
start the engine (if needed)

Re: Mr_Kuryakin suggestion, above post:
I closed lichess. I cleared lichess cookies. I surfed to lichess, and logged in. I went to analysis board. The engine off there, so I left it off there.
I went to my latest game, which was today, and which had (earlier) given the "Error Loading Engine" message, though it did (earlier) offer engine ideas for the first 5 moves (?).
Without having been asked to load the engine, it indicated that there was an "Error Loading Engine."
So, it seems, your suggestions were unsuccessful.
Thank you anyhow.
BTW, I have used Firefox for years, and played on lichess for years. Never had this problem before. I think it may have something to do with this computer, but I have no idea what that might be...

I log in to lichess anew each day. Not sure what you mean about clearing all website data, aside from clearing cookies and website data via firefox settings, which I just did and have done before.
Didn't help, though.

I would try
when you are at analysis board (not a game) and see the engine is off, can you try and start it and then turn it off again?

Thank you for the further suggestion.
I tried what you suggested. Here is what happened:
I logged in. I had not cleared cookies since yesterday, but I had been automatically logged out, as per usual, when i closed Firefox yesterday.
Before playing any games today, i went to the Analysis Board. It showed that the engine slider was not "on".
I went to the Hamburger on the same screen and checked the amount of memory allocated to the Analysis Board or the engine or whatever it says. It was at the very left of the slider, at 16 MB. I slid it to halfway.
I toggled back to the Analysis board. It showed the Engine as "ON" now, apparently this occurs when one increases the memory. (?)
I followed the moves suggested by the engine, beginning with 1.e4, followed by 1... e5, and so forth. After I made each suggested move, the Engine part of the screen flashes a message in red "Engine Failed to Load" but then immediately reverts to the Engine apparently on. This continued to Move 8, at which point the "Engine Failed to Load" appeared and didn't immediately disappear.
I then did some other things in my life for about 20 minutes, and returned to the computer. Upon refreshing the Analysis Board, i now find that the Engine has loaded and is working much farther into the game it is playing against itself while I just prompt it with pushes of the space bar to accept the suggested moves. I've taken it up to move 24 and it appears to be functioning just fine. It is not flashing the "Engine Failed to Load" at all.
I don't know what this means.
I am going to play some games and see if it can analyze them.
Until later....

So, did this fix the issue?
